H+H is the UK’s largest manufacturer of aircrete products. We manufacture the market leading range of Celcon Blocks, including Foundation Blocks, Plus Blocks and the H+H range of aircrete products.
H+H aircrete products offer a complete building material that meets the requirements of the Building Regulations, with the flexibility to offer solutions to hospitals, schools, offices, industrial warehouses and housing (social and private).
Used in partition, separating and external walls (solid or cavity), firewalls and as an infill to framed construction, our products provide durability and fire resistance as well as superb thermal and sound insulation.
Main Product Ranges:
Celcon Blocks
Celcon Blocks in Solar, Standard, High Strength and Super Strength Grades are the most commonly used aircrete block in the H+H range. All Celcon Blocks are BBA certified, are fire resistant (100mm walls, up to 4 hours, 2 hours if loadbearing) and have been classified 0 surface spread of flame and non-combustible to Class A1 (the highest class).
Celcon Block Solar Grade
Celcon Blocks Solar Grade is principally used where enhanced thermal performance is required. With superior thermal conductivity Solar Grade Celcon Blocks are suitably loadbearing for two storey buildings and can be used below DPC.
Celcon Block Standard Grade
Celcon Blocks Standard Grade is BBA certified and has a compressive strength of 3.6N/mm2. Due to its all round performance, it is possible for a 100mm Standard grade Celcon Block to be used throughout a build, eliminating on-site confusion.
Celcon Block High Strength & Super Strength Grade
H+H’s Celcon Blocks High Strength Grade (7.3N/mm2) and Super Strength Grade (8.7N/mm2) are used principally where higher compressive strengths are required such as in the foundations and lower storeys of three storey buildings, piers under high vertical loads and in multi-storey buildings.
Celcon Plus Blocks
Celcon Plus Blocks are an alternative to the 440 x 215mm face format block and are suitable for the same applications. They are longer at 630mm long and come in a variety of thicknesses.
Celcon Foundation Blocks
Available in Standard Grade (3.6N/mm²) and High Strength Grade (7.3N/mm²), Foundation Blocks can be used to support 3 storey constructions. They are suitable for the support of solid or cavity walls, framed construction or suspended floors, including beam and block.
Jumbo Bloks
Jumbo Bloks are produced with the latest technology, offering a high degree of dimensional accuracy with sharp arises, which make them ideal for use with Celfix mortar.
Celcon Block Coursing Units
Coursing Units are produced from the same material as all H+H aircrete and are suitable for the same applications as conventional size Celcon Blocks, allowing consistency within the building fabric.
Celfix Mortar
Celfix Mortar is cement based and supplied as a dry, pre-mixed powder in 25kg bags. It has been designed to replace the traditional sand:cement mortar and is used with building with our Thin-Joint System. Celfix Mortar starts to set within 10 minutes of application and approaches full design strength in just 1 to 2 hours.
Dorset housebuilder employs Vertical Wall Panels for fast build
Karm Homes, a regional housebuilder specialising in affordable housing in Dorset and Hampshire, is currently developing two chalet bungalows in Charlton Marshall, near Blandford Forum. These rural three-bedroom homes will benefit from picturesque views of the surrounding countryside and are due to be finished by early summer.
Karm Homes has chosen to build these homes using the i-House system to speed up the build programme without compromising on quality. This Modern Method of Construction (MMC) was designed by H+H in collaboration with Roofspace Solutions to meet the increasing demand for speed of delivery within the housebuilding industry.
The i-House system combines H+H Vertical Wall Panels (VWPs) with prefabricated floors and roofs, offering the complete watertight shell of a standard house design in just one week.
Vertical Wall Panels are storey-high panels of aircrete that are fabricated offsite and craned onto standard foundations. They are secured with fast-setting strong mortar, creating a 2mm airtight joint for a high-quality, time-efficient build with little site wastage.
The panels offer all the benefits of aircrete which is highly thermally efficient: Vertical Wall Panels achieve a U-value of 0.17 W/m²K, meeting Passivhaus standards. Aircrete is also fire, moisture, and mould resistant and has a lifespan of over a hundred years, enabling the construction of durable, comfortable homes.
Martin Keenes, Director of Karm Homes, is an advocate of the i-House solution, and feels the system is ideal for smaller housebuilders developing niche sites. He likes the convenience of working with one company that sources all the materials for the building envelope and assembles it on site. He also appreciates having complete design flexibility and where possible designs the floorplate of each home around the 600mm width of the Vertical Wall Panels to reduce cuts, wastage, and time.
Martin comments: “We have looked at other MMC systems, such as SIPs, but found them to be more expensive than the i-House masonry solution plus increased fire risk and insurance premiums associated with a timber build. We also prefer building with masonry as our customers expect the durability that comes with a masonry home.”
Karm Homes has not been afraid to seek out innovative housebuilding solutions and Martin finds it surprising that the H+H Vertical Wall Panels are not more widely used, commenting:
“We use local architects to design our houses. When we suggest H+H Vertical Wall Panels to them, they’re sometimes unaware of the option. However, once they’ve seen the system in action, they’re completely converted. We can’t understand why more companies are not using this solution.”
H+H supports builders’ merchants with ‘direct to site’ service
At H+H, we are dedicated to supporting every customer, regardless of size. Our ‘direct to site’ service is just one example of how we do this.
We hold product at site and deliver from that stock rather than manufacturing to order. This ensures supply and gives us flexibility in the support we can offer our customers, like our ‘direct to site’ service.
We have a dedicated sales team to support builders’ merchants which is on hand to answer any questions about ‘direct to site’ and to provide quotations. The offer enables the builders’ merchant to take an order from a customer and have the blocks delivered direct to that customer’s site by H+H.
This is an ideal solution for builders’ merchants looking to win projects, without needing to take delivery of the stock, store it and then arrange delivery of it out to site. This affords them the opportunity to win projects that might otherwise have been out of reach. The end customer might be a self-builder, a contractor building extensions or an SME building two or three houses looking to order more than a few packs.
Our dedicated team talk to builders’ merchants about their specific requirements, the delivery schedule, any access issues, and which products are required. A quotation will be supplied usually within 24 hours. Our merchant team is very knowledgeable but for any specific technical queries our technical team is also on hand to advise.
Working with the build programme
As part of the ‘direct to site’ service, we will deliver blocks in line with the build schedule and can mix loads according to what is required on site at the different stages of the build programme.
For example, at the beginning of the project the customer may require Celcon Foundation Blocks if they’re building below the DPC in aircrete. They may then require Standard Grade Celcon Blocks, or if building for enhanced thermal performance the customer may prefer Solar Grade Celcon Blocks. Some builders prefer the speed that comes with using the larger format Celcon Plus Blocks.
Aircrete made into infill Coursing Units are often needed too to protect against cold bridging, as infill above doors and windows and making up between joists.
Whatever the requirement, we have a block to meet it – and all can be delivered with the ‘direct to site’ service.
We also offer ‘site completion’, useful when builders need just a few more packs to finish the project H+H has been delivering to. Even if it’s not a full load we’ll deliver whatever they need to get the job done.
Our ‘direct to site’ service is just one of the ways we support our builders’ merchants in helping them to convert enquiries into sales.
